Warmer weather today and this weekend

Short Term Forecast :  It is a foggy start to the day with visibilites less than 1/4 mile at times.  Please use caution as you travel around town!  Otherwise, it is mostly clear and chilly with temperatures in the 40s. The fog will dissipate later this morning and we will be left with a mix of sun and clouds.  The fog and clouds are due to more moisture coming up from the Gulf of Mexico as the winds have shifted from the northeast to the east.  We will become warmer today with highs in the lower 70s. Expect more patchy dense fog tonight with partly cloudy skies.  It will be mild with lows only falling to the lower 50s. Weekend Forecast :  Saturday will start out foggy, but we will be partly cloudy and warm by the afternoon.  A weak trough of low pressure will move across the state and that will help to keep some of the clouds around.  It will be even warmer with highs in the mid 70s.  Saturday Night will be foggy and mostly cloudy with lows in the upper 50s. Short Term Forecast :  It is another clear and cold start on this Thursday with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s.  Some patchy frost will be possible.  Be sure to dress warmly as you head out the door! The quiet and cool weather continues today across Southeast Louisiana.  There is an area of high pressure located to the north of the state and that is still bringing us the cool northerly winds.  Some high clouds will move overhead today, so it will be mostly sunny with high temperatures in the lower to mid 60s. Some of the clouds will stay over the city tonight and it will be chilly.  However, it is not going to be as cold with lows near 40. Plenty of High Clouds and Cool Temperatures Today

Short Term Forecast :  It is a cold start to this Tuesday with clear skies and temperatures in the mid 30s.  You will want to take that warm coat with you as you head out the door! A disturbance, or short wave, will move out of Texas and over Louisiana today.  This will not have any rain associated with it, but it will bring us plenty of high thin clouds, or cirrus clouds.  The sun will still be able to be seen through them, but it will appear somewhat overcast at times.  This is what I like to call filtered sunshine.  Expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies this afternoon and it will stay cool with high temperatures in the lower 60s.  The clouds will gradually decrease tonight and it will become clear after midnight.  We will be quite cold again and patchy frost will be possible with low temperatures in the mid to upper 30s.  You may want to cover some of your plants tonight.  Week Ahead :  High pressure will remain over the Eastern U.S. and that will make for

A Cold Front Brings Rain And Colder Temperatures Today

Short Term Forecast :  A cold front is moving through Southeast Louisiana this morning.  We have scattered showers and a few thunderstorms over the area.  The rain should come to an end by late morning.  Then we will be left with mostly cloudy skies.  Temperatures are in the 50s. The cold front will be to the east of Baton Rouge this afternoon and it will take all the rain with it.  Then we will have partly to mostly cloudy skies.  The temperature forecast for today is pretty complicated. High temperatures were reached early this morning, and fell once the front moved through.  However, we could see them rise a little when the sun peaks out this afternoon, so look for them to climb back into the lower 60s. It will become mostly clear and MUCH COLDER tonight.  Low temperatures will fall down to the upper 30s.  You better plan to bundle up! Week Ahead :  An area of high pressure will build in behind the front on Tuesday and stay over the Southeast U.S. all week.  We w

Warmer Weather Returns to Baton Rouge Today

Short Term Forecast :  We have a chilly start to the day around the Baton Rouge area this morning!  You better bundle up since the temperatures are in the lower 40s under mostly clear skies. You will not need that coat this afternoon as some warmer temperatures are headed our way.  The area of high pressure that has been sitting over us the last few days has moved to the east of Louisiana.  This will shift the winds from the north to the southeast and that will pump up warmer air from the Gulf of Mexico.  It will also increase the moisture in the atmosphere, so we will see some clouds this afternoon.  Therefore, we will be mostly sunny and warmer with high temperatures in the mid 70s. It is not going to be as cold tonight thanks to those southerly winds.  We will be mostly clear, but patchy fog is expected during the morning.  Low temperatures will be in the lower to mid 50s. Weekend Forecast :  The warm air sticks around all weekend.  We will be partly cloudy, war

The Cool and Beautiful Weather Continues in Baton Rouge

Short Term Forecast :  You better bundle up as you head out the door this morning around Baton Rouge!  We have clear skies with our temperatures in the upper 30s to lower 40s. The area of high pressure remains over the Deep South this afternoon and that will make for another beautiful day.  It will be sunny but still cool thanks to cold air moving in from the northeast.  High temperatures will be in the upper 60s. You can expect another chilly night across Southeast Louisiana with clear skies.  Low temperatures will be in the lower 40s. Friday will also be a gorgeous day, but it is going to be much warmer.  This is due to the area of high pressure moving to the east of Louisiana and shifting the winds from the north to the southeast.  We will have mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid 70s.  Friday Night will be not as chilly with clear skies and low temperatures in the mid 50s. Weekend Forecast :  The southerly winds will continue all weekend and that means w

Nor' Easter Currently Affecting Mid-Atlantic to New England

Rain and snow is moving over parts of the Delmarva Peninsula, NJ, NY and New England right now.  The winds are increasing and the seas are starting to get rough.  The weather will continue to go downhill throughout today and Thursday.  Heavy rain, inland snow, gale force winds and coastal flooding are expected. Coast Forecast... It will be breezy with scattered showers/snow showers and chilly temperatures today.  Some of the rain will mix with snow at times today.  The rain/snow mix is expected tonight, but you will have mostly rain.  Little to no snow accumulation is expected at this time.  Areas more inland in NJ and NY will see some accumulating snow .  It will be very windy with speeds around 25-45 mph and higher gusts.  A  High Wind Warning  is in effect 6 AM Thursday.  The rain/snow mix will change back to all rain on Thursday and the winds will still be breezy around 25-35 mph.  I am also expecting a coastal surge of water which will add high water levels above normal mean hig

Cool and Gorgeous Weather In Baton Rouge Today

Short Term Forecast :  You better take your jacket with you this morning as you head out the door!  We have clear skies with temperatures in the 40s.  Brrr!! An area of high pressure is located to the northwest of town and it will usher in northerly winds.  This will allow us to be sunny and still cool.  Highs will be around 70.  Expect some cold weather tonight with clear skies.  Low temperatures will fall to near 40.  You will definitely want to bundle up tomorrow morning! Rest of the Week :  The area of high pressure will remain over us on Thursday, so we will be sunny with cool temperatures.  Highs will only get into the upper 60s thanks to some cold air filtering to the Deep South due to the Nor' Easter along the East Coast.  Thursday Night will be clear and cold again with lows in the lower 40s. The high pressure moves east of Louisiana on Friday and that will shift the winds from the north to the southeast.  These winds will usher in warmer and more hu

Nor' Easter Still Expected Tomorrow and Thursday

Looking at the latest forecast models they show something new...the low is forecast to move a little more to the east of the coast, or more offshore, which will not put as much rain/snow inland.  This is FANTASTIC!!  However, coastal areas may actually see some snow along with the wind of 25-45 mph and a little coastal surge.  Fortunately, the strongest wind field seems to be staying more out at sea verses along the coast.  Don't be fooled...it will still be pretty windy along the coast and inland.  If you see trees that were weakened by Sandy, and could fall, NOW would be the time to take care of them! Coast Forecast... it starts tonight.  It will be breezy with scattered showers and chilly temperatures.  On Wednesday it will start out as all rain until the late afternoon.  Then the rain will mix with snow through the night.  Little to no accumulation is expected at this time.  Areas more inland in NJ and NY could see some accumulating snow.  It will be very windy with speeds a

Much Cooler Weather Headed Back To Baton Rouge

Short Term Forecast :  The cold front that brought us the severe weather last night has pushed into the Gulf of Mexico this morning.  We are left with some lingering clouds and temperatures in the 50s. The clouds will dissipate this afternoon and we will become sunny as high pressure builds in behind the front.  It will be much cooler with high temperatures in the mid 60s. You can expect a pretty chilly night with clear skies across Southeast Louisiana.  Low temperatures will dip into the lower 40s.  Better take that jacket with you! Week Ahead :  After a chilly start to Wednesday we will have a beautiful afternoon with sunny skies as that high pressure remains to the northwest of Louisiana.  Highs will be around 70.  Wednesday Night will be clear and cold with a low near 40.  BRRR!  Some reinforcing colder air will move in from the north on Thursday.  This is due to the Nor' Easter that will be moving up the East Coast.  We will have a nice sunny day, but it

Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 1 AM for SE LA

The combination a cold front and a disturbance are setting off scattered showers and thunderstorms across Southeast Louisiana this evening.  The storms will likely continue until midnight to 1 AM, or until the front passes through Baton Rouge.  This is why the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 1 AM. These storms could produce damaging winds, large hail and there is a slight chance of a tornado.  Keep an eye on the radar, News 2, WBRZ's Cable Weather Channel, Facebook and Twitter for additional updates.

Another Nor' Easter Looming for the Northeast U.S.

Looking at the latest forecast models this morning still show a Nor' Easter expected to hit the Northeast U.S. on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.  The GFS (American Model) and ECMWF (European Model) are in pretty good agreement of the track of this storm.  This is NOT going to be as big OR strong as Sandy.  However, it will bring heavy rain, gusty winds around 25-45 mph with higher gusts, a coastal surge and some heavy snows inland.  Temperatures will remain cold for those without power. If you live up there and have some trees that didn't fall from Sandy, but look like they could with this storm, then take preparations to remove them before Wednesday.  Make sure you also have enough food and water along with gas before Wednesday just in case the power goes out again...which will be possible!  It is always better to be prepared! For my family in St. Marys, PA...looks like you will not have much of an impact with this Nor' Easter.  However, you will see some rain/s

Showers & Storms in Baton Rouge Today

Short Term Forecast :  We start off this Monday Morning with partly cloudy skies and some patchy fog.  It is cool with temperatures in the mid 50s.  You may want to take that jacket with you and your umbrella too. A cold front is located along the Louisiana Coast, and a strong disturbance will move into Louisiana from the north this afternoon.  The disturbance will interact with the cold front and they will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.  Some could be strong to severe at times.  SPC has placed all of South Louisiana in a Slight Risk for severe weather.  The main threats will be damaging winds and hail, but there is also a slight chance for a tornado.  The greatest chance of seeing severe weather today will be along and south of I-10 and 12.  Otherwise, we will have a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the lower 70s. The showers and storms will continue through the evening hours and they could still be strong.  Then over

Mid-week Nor' Easter for the Northeast U.S.

Forecast models are showing that another Nor' Easter is headed to the Northeast U.S. Coast by Wednesday to Thursday.  This one will NOT be as big or strong as Sandy.  However, it will bring heavy rain, gusty winds around 25-45 mph with higher gusts, and a little storm surge.  Sows are also expected inland.  Temperatures will remain cold for those without power. If you live up there and have some trees that didn't fall from Sandy, but look like they could with this storm, then tape preparations to remove them before Wednesday.  Make sure you also have enough food and water along with gas before Wednesday j use in case the power goes out again.  As you may know, it is always better to be prepared! For my family in St. Marys, PA...looks like you will not have much of an impact with this Nor' Easter.  You may see some rain/snow showers Wednesday Night into Thursday.  Highs will be in the 40s and lows in the 20s. For my family in NE PA...you will see a mix of rain and snow

Once the fog dissipates we will have some mostly sunny skies and a warm afternoon.  It will be a little humid too as an area of high pressure sits in the Central Gulf of Mexico.  High temperatures will be in the mid 80s.  Watch out for more dense fog tonight as plenty of Gulf Moisture will be sitting over South Louisiana.  It will be cool with lows in the upper 50s. Weekend Forecast :  Saturday will be another nice day with partly cloudy skies, but there is a slight chance for a late-day shower.  However, most of you will not see any rain.  It will be warm and humid with highs in the lower 80s.  Saturday Night will be partly to mostly cloudy with a slight ch
