A Rainy Start To The Week, Keeping An Eye On The Tropics

Short Term Forecast :  A cold front is stalled to the northwest of Baton Rouge.  This is allowing for some showers to pop-up this morning with mostly cloudy skies.  Temperatures are around 70. The front will remain stalled today, and a few disturbances will move along the front.  This will allow us to have scattered showers with a few thunderstorms this afternoon.  Some heavy rain is possible.  High temperatures will be held down thanks to the rain as they only climb into the lower to mid 80s. The clouds and showers will stick around tonight.  Low temperatures will be in the lower 70s. Week Ahead :  The front will remain stalled over the area on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Disturbances, and an upper-level low will move along the front, and this will continue to give us scattered showers and thunderstorms each day.  Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s each day.  We will be partly to mostly cloudy at night with a few showers possible.  Lows will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Hot and Drier Weather Returns For A Few Days

Short Term Forecast :  The rain has come to an end and we have some lingering clouds over Baton Rouge.  The cold front is still off to the northwest of town and it will move through later today.  Some patchy fog is possible around town.  Temperatures are in the upper 60s to lower 70s. The cold front will quietly push through Baton Rouge by this afternoon.  We will only see a few clouds associated with it as much drier air filters in over Southeast Louisiana.  Then an area of high pressure will build across the Deep South and this will keep our weather quiet for a few days.  It will be mostly sunny, hot and dry with highs in the lower 90s. Expect a refreshing night across the city!  We will be mostly clear, cooler and comfortable with lows in the mid 60s.  How nice does that sound?!? Rest of the Week :  The area of high pressure will sit over us on Thursday and Friday.  Each day will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy, hot and dry.  Since the humidity levels will be lower it will

More Heavy Rain and Storms Today

Short Term Forecast :  It is a partly to mostly cloudy morning with showers and storms starting to pop-up across Southeast Louisiana.  More rain will be developing throughout the morning, so plan on some rain for your commute.  It is a much warmer and more humid morning with temperatures in the 70s. The combination of a warm front, a low in the Gulf, a trough and a cold front will impact the weather in Baton Rouge this afternoon.  This will lead us to getting scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms.  Some of the rain could be heavy at times, and minor flash flooding will be possible.  High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s. Those systems will be moving to the east of town tonight and we will see the rain coming to an end.  It will become partly cloudy, but still stay muggy with lows in the lower 70s. Week Ahead :  An area of high pressure will build across the Southern Plains States and into the Southeast U.S. on Wednesday through Friday.  This will bring us

More Wet Weather To Start This Week

Short Term Forecast :  We have a clear, cool and very comfortable start to this Monday Morning across the Capital City as the cold front sits in the Gulf of Mexico.  Temperatures are in the lower to mid 60s...how refreshing is that?!?!  However, don't get used to it! The cold front will turn into a warm front and it will start retreating back to the north this afternoon.  This will increase the humidity, the clouds and give us isolated showers and thunderstorms with the daytime heating.  High temperatures will be in the upper 80s. The warm front will continue to push inland tonight.  This will make it mostly cloudy with scattered showers.  It will be much more humid with low temperatures in the lower 70s. Week Ahead :  The warm front will continue to move inland on Tuesday.  At the same time a trough of low pressure will move into the Southeast U.S. with a cold front and an area of low pressure over the Western Gulf of Mexico will head toward the Louisiana Coast.  Combine

A Cold Front Brings Us Plenty Of Rain And Storms This Weekend

Short Term Forecast :  It is a pretty warm and muggy morning across the Capital City with partly to mostly cloudy skies.  A few showers may move into town, but the bulk of the rain will arrive later today.  Temperatures are in the 70s. A cold front will be moving into Northern Louisiana this afternoon.  Ahead of it we will have a warm and humid air mass.  The front will tap into that moisture and set off scattered showers and thunderstorms ahead of it around Southeast Louisiana.  Some of the storms could have heavy rain associated with them.  Otherwise, when it is not raining we will have a mix of sun and clouds.  We will be as hot today thanks to the rain with high temperatures in the upper 80s. We will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and storms into the evening.  Some of the high school football games will be soggy once again.  The clouds and rain will stick around overnight with low temperatures in the mid 70s. Weekend Forecast :  I've made some significant ch

Scattered Showers and Storms Today, Keeping An Eye On The Bay of Campeche

Short Term Forecast :  We have partly to mostly cloudy skies across the Baton Rouge area with isolated showers and storms moving into town from the southeast.  Some heavy rain can be expected with any shower that pops up over your homes.  Temperatures are in the 70s. Deeper tropical moisture continues to arrive today from the south.  This is helping to set off the scattered showers and storms with the heating of the day with partly to mostly cloudy skies.  High temperatures will be in the lower 90s. Most of the rain will come to an end tonight and we will be left with some coastal showers.  Baton Rouge will have some lingering clouds with low temperatures in the lower 70s. A cold front will move closer to Baton Rouge from the northwest on Friday.  It will be very warm and humid ahead of it, and the front will tap into that moisture.  This will give us mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Some storms could be strong with gusty winds and heavy rain.  Hi

Isolated Showers Today, Watching The Tropics

Short Term Forecast :  We have some high clouds streaming over Baton Rouge again this morning and this is making it mostly clear to partly cloudy at times.  It is warm and muggy with temperatures in the 70s. The ridge of high pressure in the mid to upper-levels that has been sitting over us the last few days will move to the east of Louisiana.  This will allow for some return flow, or southerly winds to come back over the state.  These winds will start to usher in deeper tropical moisture over the city, and that will make it more humid.  When you combine that with daytime heating some isolated showers and storms will pop-up.  However, most of you will stay dry today with a mix of sun and clouds.  High temperatures will be in the lower 90s. A few clouds will stick around tonight and it will be quite stuffy.  Low temperatures will be in the lower 70s. Rest of the Week :  The ridge will stay east of Louisiana and that will keep the southerly winds over us for the rest of the week

More Heat Today, But A Cold Front Arrives This Weekend

Short Term Forecast :  We have a pretty nice start to this Tuesday with mostly clear skies and muggy temperatures in the 70s.   The ridge of high pressure in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere will remain over us today.  This means we will have partly cloudy skies with only a stray shower or two popping up.  It will be hot and still humid with high temperatures in the lower to mid 90s. You can expect a mostly clear night across the Capital City.  It will be sticky with low temperatures in the lower 70s. Week Ahead :  The ridge will move to the northeast of Louisiana starting on Wednesday.  This will allow for some extra Gulf Moisture to stream over Louisiana.  We will remain partly cloudy in the afternoon with a slightly better chance of a shower popping up.  Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s on Wednesday Night with a few clouds. More moisture moves over us on Thursday and when you combine that with the daytime heating we will have isolated sh

Some Unsettled Weather Is Expected This Week

Short Term Forecast :  We have a partly cloudy start to the day as high clouds associated with Hurricane Ingrid in the Gulf and Manuel in the Pacific are streaming over the Southern U.S.  We are warm and humid with temperatures in the 70s. Get ready for a hot and humid afternoon across the Capital City as an area of high pressure sits over us.  Some spotty showers and storms could pop-up with the heating of the day, but most of you will stay dry.  High temperatures will be in the lower 90s. Some clouds will linger over us tonight and it will be pretty muggy.  Low temperatures will be in the lower 70s. Week Ahead :  The ridge of high pressure will start to move to the northeast on Tuesday, but we will stay pretty dry.  Only a slight chance for a shower is possible with partly cloudy skies.  It will be hot and more humid with highs in the lower 90s.  Tuesday Night will have partly cloudy skies with lows in the lower 70s. A better chance of rain will return on Wednesday and

Ingrid Has Strengthened Into A Hurricane

As of 4 PM this afternoon, Hurricane Hunters have found that Tropical Storm Ingrid has strengthened into a hurricane with 75 mph winds.  It becomes the 2nd hurricane of the 2013 season.  The hurricane has formed an eye on visible satellite.  It is sitting over warm waters with little wind shear and that helped it to get stronger. Hurricane Ingrid is moving to the north at 7 mph, but will turn to the northwest then west on Sunday.  This means Ingrid will make a landfall near Tampico, Mexico on Monday Afternoon.  The hurricane is forecast to get a little stronger with winds around 85 mph by landfall.  However, if the speed slows down, then the hurricane could get stronger and may have a different location for landfall.  This will have to be watched over the next 2 days. Ingrid is not going to impact Louisiana directly, but some tropical moisture could stream north toward Louisiana.  This would help to increase the chance of rain for us in Baton Rouge next week. Be sure to keep

Tropical Depression #10 has Strengthened Into Tropical Storm Ingrid

A Hurricane Hunter plane investigating the system has found winds have increased to 45 mph and now Tropical Depression #10 has strengthened into Tropical Storm Ingrid.  It is slowly moving erratically to the west at 2 mph.  Ingrid will turn to the NNW tonight and will slowly track toward Northern Mexico this weekend.  Landfall is expected to be on Sunday Night/Monday Morning near Tampico, Mexico with 65 mph winds. Ingrid will stay away from Louisiana thanks to a ridge of high pressure that will build across the Southern U.S. this weekend.  The clockwise flow around the ridge will force the storm to stay on a northwest track. Be sure to keep it tuned to WBRZ, WBRZ Weather Channel and my Facebook/Twitter feeds to any additional updates. -Dave

A Cold Front Brings Us Some Rain This Weekend

Short Term Forecast :  We have a pretty pleasant Friday Morning across the Capital City.  The skies are mostly clear with temperatures in the 70s. A cold front will be moving toward Louisiana and Baton Rouge during the afternoon hours today.  We will become partly cloudy ahead of it and a few showers will start to pop-up later in the day.  Highs will be in the lower to mid 90s. The cold front will move closer to Baton Rouge tonight.  We will be mostly cloudy with a few showers overnight.  Lows will be in the lower 70s. Weekend Forecast :  The front will stall and dissipate along the Louisiana Coast this weekend.  This will still allow us to see some rain, but not enough that would cancel any of your plans.  Therefore, it will be partly cloudy and hot with a few showers on Saturday and Sunday.  Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s. Football Forecast :  If you are headed to the LSU or Southern games this weekend get ready for it to be hot during the tailgat

Tropical Depression #10 Forms In The Southern Gulf of Mexico

Invest 93L has been upgraded to Tropical Depression #10 in the Southern Gulf of Mexico, or Bay of Campeche, thanks to Hurricane Hunter and satellite data.  It has developed a well-defined center and upper-level winds are favorable for additional development. Steering currents are low, so TD 10 is not expected to move much over the next 2-3 days and it will have a slow and erratic movement.  This will allow the depression to get stronger and is forecast to become a tropical storm on Friday.  It would get the name Ingrid.  The clockwise flow around the ridge of high pressure, which will build over the Southern U.S., will steer the system westward into Mexico.  The forecast is for a landfall near Tampico, Mexico next Monday with 60 mph winds.   This system will not have a direct impact on Louisiana.  However, it will lead to some high seas and an increased chance of rain around Baton Rouge next week. Be sure to keep it tuned to WBRZ, the WBRZ Weather Channel and my Facebo

More Heat Today, A Cold Front Friday Night And The Tropics Are Active

Short Term Forecast :  We have a pretty warm and muggy Thursday Morning with mostly clear skies and temperatures in the 70s. The ridge of high pressure that has been sitting over us the last few days will build to the west today.  This will keep us mainly dry and hot with partly cloudy skies.  A few showers are possible, but I'm not expecting many of you to see rain.  High temperatures will be in the lower to mid 90s. A few clouds will linger over the city tonight and it will stay warm.  Low temperatures will be in the lower 70s. The weather will start to change a little on Friday.  A trough of low pressure in the upper-levels of the atmosphere will move down along the Eastern U.S.  This will send a cold front toward and through Baton Rouge.  The front will arrive late in the day and it will help to set off a few showers.  Therefore, we will be partly cloudy and hot with a few showers.  Highs will be in the lower 90s.  Friday night will be partly to mostly cloudy with a few
