Here is a breakdown of how much snow and ice we are expecting across SE LA starting on Tuesday AM thru Wednesday AM.  Some areas in Southern Mississippi could see even more snow (3"+).  This would be the most snow we have seen in years!  1/4" to 1/2" of ice is SIGNIFICANT!  This would be enough to down trees and power lines.  Please plan for some power outages all across Southeast Louisiana.  The NWS has a Winter Storm Warning for all of SE LA starting on Tuesday Morning and lasting until Wednesday Morning.  This is issued when significant snow and ice are expected, and when travel will be significantly impacted!! ...Winter Storm WARNING from 6 AM Tuesday Until 6 AM Wednesday... As I've been talking about the last few days, our next winter storm is upon us.  Right now, a cold front is moving into Southeast Louisiana.  This front is setting off some scattered showers across far SE LA and they will continue into the afternoon hours.  High temperatures will be in the lower 60s this afternoon. Once the cold front moves through this afternoon/evening, the temperatures will start to fall.  This will be the leading edge of the cold air heading our way.  The rain will come to an end, and we will be left with mostly cloudy skies.  Low temperatures will fall into the upper 20s north of the lake and the lower 30s south. As I expected...the National Weather Service for New Orleans/Baton Rouge has issued a Winter Storm Watch for ALL of Southeast Louisiana from Tuesday Morning through late Tuesday Night.  This storm is expected to be worse than what we saw on Friday!!! A Winter Storm Watch means that there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. It is rare that we have this issued for Southeast Louisiana, but when we do, we can get some messy weather. At this time, the forecast models continue to show the potential for a winter storm over the New Orleans to Baton Rouge areas.  It will start out at rain on Monday with temperatures expected to be in the 60s.  Then a cold front will push across the state and bring in much colder air.  We will still have moisture over us, so the rain is expected to mix with sleet and freezing rain on Tuesday Morning.  Some areas may see a total transition to snow - mainly north of Baton Rouge. Yes, believe it or not, it is looking more likely that another winter storm will be hitting South Louisiana this week!!! Breaking It Down :  Forecast models are showing a cold front moving to the Deep South during the day on Monday.  This front will tap into the warmer and moist air over South Louisiana, and it will set off scattered showers.  Once the front passes through by Monday Afternoon, much colder air will filter in behind it.  As this happens, the rain will start to mix with freezing rain and sleet across the Baton Rouge to New Orleans areas after midnight. During the day on Tuesday there will still be enough moisture in the atmosphere to sustain the wintry mix.  A disturbance will move east out of Mexico across Texas and into South Louisiana.  This could enhance the amount of wintry precipitation we will see on Tuesday. Timing :  Right now the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas will be warm with rain on Monday.  The changeover will occur after midnight into Tuesday with

...Winter Weather Advisory Until 6 PM...  A Winter Weather Advisory is in place through 6pm for areas north and now south of the lake. A mix of snow and sleet is possible throughout the day.  This is issued when travel problems are expected due to the icy conditions.  Elevated roadways and overpasses could be icy all around the New Orleans area through the afternoon and into the evening hours.  The Latest :  It has been a messy morning with the wintry mix mainly north and west of New Orleans.  The rain, sleet and snow will continue through the afternoon.  A light glaze of ice is possible mainly north of the lake.  South of the lake I am expecting mainly a light rain event with a few sleet pellets mixed in.  A few overpasses could be icy north and west of the lake this this afternoon.  Please be careful while traveling around the region.  High temperatures will not warm up much as they only climb into the mid 30s. ...Winter Weather Advisory For The Baton Rouge Area From 6 PM to 9 AM Friday... Wintry Weather :  A cold front is moving across the southern part of Louisiana this afternoon.  At the same time, there is a trough of low pressure in the Western Gulf of Mexico that is setting off scattered showers over Eastern Texas into Western Louisiana. The forecast models are now showing a little more moisture coming in from the trough in the Gulf.  This is sending the moisture into cold air and that is why there is a little better chance of seeing some wintry weather verses what we saw yesterday.  However, there is also some dry air near the surface, and this may help to evaporate any wintry precipitation that may fall. Temperatures are expected to fall to the freezing point later this evening across Western Louisiana, and that will allow the rain to be mixed with sleet and snow from Lake Charles to Baton Rouge to the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain.  Right now the rain has changed over t

Short Term Forecast :  We finally have a morning where we are above freezing!!  Mostly cloudy skies are greeting us on this Thursday Morning with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s.  I'd still take that coat with you as you head out the door. The warming trend continues today thanks to the area of high pressure moving up the East Coast.  This has taken the bitter cold air with it, and southeasterly winds will come back over Baton Rouge today.  These winds will transport in some warmer Gulf air along with some extra moisture.  This will give us a mix of sun and clouds with high temperatures in the lower 60s. Another Bitter Cold Start :  You will need to bundle up once again on this Wednesday Morning across South Louisiana.  We have mostly clear to partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the lower 20s.  Areas of South Mississippi will be down into the upper teens!! The area of high pressure that was sitting over us yesterday will be moving east of Louisiana today.  This will take away the bitter cold Arctic Air, and we will start to slowly warm up.  We will have mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies this afternoon with high temperatures around 50. A Bitter Cold Day :  We start out this Tuesday Morning with mostly clear skies as some high clouds remain over the city.  It is bitter cold with temperatures in the upper teens to lower 20s.  PLEASE bundle up as you head to school and work today.  It will remain cold all day long! An area of high pressure will sit over us today and that will make for a beautiful sunny day.  Unfortunately, it will stay very cold all afternoon.  The Arctic Air will still be over us today and that will not allow us to warm up much.  We will only have high temperatures in the upper 30s to around 40 in the Baton Rouge area.  If you have to be outside for an extended period of time today be sure to dress in layers to stay extra warm! ...Freeze Warning from Until 9 AM Monday... ...Wind Chill Advisory Until Noon Monday... ...Hard Freeze Warning from 6 PM Monday Until 9 AM Tuesday... Arctic Blast :  I hope you are ready for some of the coldest temperatures since 2010 to affect the Baton Rouge area!!  While we will be no where near as cold as our friends and family in the Northern U.S., we will still be very cold for Louisiana.  Now that the cold front has moved through the state, the cold air is making its way into Baton Rouge.  We are starting out this Monday Morning in the lower 30s to upper 20s with breezy northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph.   This will give us a Wind Chill as cold as 15 degrees at times .  BUNDLE UP as you head out the door today - both kids at the bus stop and adults too! ...Freeze Warning from Midnight Tonight Until 9 AM Monday... ...Wind Chill Advisory from Midnight Tonight Until Noon Monday... ...Hard Freeze Warning from 6 PM Monday Until 9 AM Tuesday... Arctic Blast :  Get ready for some of the coldest temperatures since 2010 to affect Southeast Louisiana!!  While we will be no where near as cold as our friends and family north of Louisiana, we will still be very cold for Louisiana.  The cold front moved through town this evening and the cold air is now making its way here.  We will start out in the mid 20s on Monday Morning with breezy northwest winds.   This will give us a Wind Chill as cold as 11 degrees at times . BUNDLE UP the kids at the bus stop and adults need to bundle up too!  High temperatures will only be in the 30s on Monday afternoon, so it will stay cold ALL DAY! ...Hard Freeze Watch Sunday Night Through Monday Morning... Short Term Forecast :  We had a pretty pleasant Sunday with sunny skies and mild temperatures in the 60s.  It will not be as chilly tonight with partly to mostly cloudy skies.  Low temperatures will be in the upper 40s. You can expect plenty of clouds on Sunday as a strong Arctic Cold Front moves into Baton Rouge.  Scattered showers will move into town during the afternoon with the cold front.  High temperatures will be in the mid 60s ahead of the front.  As soon as the front passes through town, it will become windy and the temperatures will fall quickly from the 60s into the 40s!  Winds will be out of the southwest to northwest at 15 to 25 mph with higher gusts.
