Heavy Rain Today: We will have another round of scattered showers and storms today as a cold front moves in from the north.  This will help to give us a break from the heat!  The storms today will have plenty of moisture to tap into, so they will contain heavy rain.  A few storms could also be strong to possibly severe with some gusty winds and hail.  High temperatures will still get into the lower  90s  before the storms develop.  Make sure you take the umbrella and rain coat today!  Some showers will linger overnight as the cold front settles along the coast.  Otherwise, it will be mild and muggy with lows  in the  70s.  The front will remain stalled along the coast on Wednesday, so we will continue to deal with scattered showers and storms.  However, the Southshore to the coast will see the most storms.  High temperatures will remain lower thanks to the clouds and rain, and they will only be in the upper 80s.  Thursday will be a transition day from the stormy weather

Sunday was a scorcher. We hit a record high temperature of 100° at Armstrong International Airport on Sunday. The previous record was 98° from 2012.  At Slidell, we tied a record high temperature of 96° set in 1972. The heat index was as high as 110°.  After a very hot weekend, we will see some relief from the heat this week!   We start this Monday off with scattered showers and storms moving in from the MS Coast.  They will contain heavy rain and plenty of lightning. This will impact the morning commute! Give yourself plenty of time to get to work today and take the umbrella.   This afternoon will still be very hot, but we will see another round scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Some of the storms could be strong with heavy rain and plenty of lightning.  Highs will be in the mid  90s , but it will feel like 105-110°!  Look for some to continue to night with isolated showers and storms.  Lows will be in the mid to upper 70s. The wettest day of week will be on Tuesday

The upper level high pressure will continue to move to the east and set up over LA/MS/AL for the next few days.  At the same time, a surface area of high pressure will remain over us too.  These highs will provide sinking air over the region and dry air aloft.  That means we will have plenty of sunshine, drier than normal conditions and hotter than normal temperatures each day through the weekend.  There will only be a very small chance for rain around 10% for areas along the coast.  High temperatures will be in the lower to mid  90s .  It will feel like 95-100° today and Friday.  Some added low-level Gulf Moisture moves in this weekend, and that will make it feel like 105°.   Morning lows will be in the 70s, so it will not take much for us to heat up!   Please take it easy if you will be working outside the next few days.  Use sunscreen, drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks, make sure pets have a cool spot and plenty of water, and don't leave kids/pets in cars.
