Gorgeous Spring-like Weather Continues Today

High pressure will remain over the area today, and that means we will have more quiet weather.  There is a chance you could smell smoke in the air across the region. This is coming from a marsh fire over Vermilion Parish.  We will have winds out of the SW today, and they will help to blow the smoke NE toward Baton Rouge and the Southern New Orleans area.  Otherwise, the area of high pressure will keep us sunny, and we will be a little milder thanks to the southerly winds.  High temperatures will be in the lower to mid 70s.  Tonight will be mostly clear and we could see a few areas of fog.  It will be cool with lows in the 50s on both sides of the lake. Wednesday and Thursday (Groundhog Day) will remain very mild as the area of high pressure sits over Florida.  This will keep southerly winds over us, and they will bring back some moisture over the Gulf South.  This will make it partly cloudy each day.  Highs will be in the mid 70s, and lows will be in the 50s.   A weak cold

A Warming Trend Begins Today And Lasts All Week

An area of high pressure will build over us today.  This will make us sunny and milder with highs in the upper 60s.  Tonight will be clear and not as chilly with lows in the upper 40s north and lower 50s south of the lake.   The area of high pressure will move east across the Northern Gulf of Mexico for the rest of the week.  This will bring back onshore or southerly flow over SE Louisiana.  That means we will see a warm-up for the rest of the work week.  Tuesday through Thursday will be partly cloudy and mild with daily highs in the lower 70s.  Lows will be in the 50s on both sides of the lake.   A weak cold front looks to move across the area on Friday.  It will bring us partly cloudy skies with just a slight chance for a shower or two.  We will stay mild with highs in the lower 70s.  Friday Night is a few degrees cooler with 40s north and 50s south.  The weekend will also be slightly cooler with partly cloudy skies on Saturday and highs in the upper 60s.  Another cold f

Chilly Temperatures All Weekend

We will have pretty quiet weather this weekend with below average temperatures, so it feels like January.  An area of high pressure will remain west of us over Texas.  This will keep NW to W winds over us, and that means it will stay chilly all weekend.  A disturbance aloft will move from the Western Gulf of Mexico toward Florida.  This will stay in the Gulf, but we will have clouds from it moving over us today.  This will make it mostly cloudy with a few stray showers possible along the coast. Any rain seen on radar over land will just be virga, or rain that evaporates before it hits the ground.  Highs will be in the mid 50s, so keep the heavy coat with you all day.   The clouds will start to decrease tonight as a trough of low pressure moves across the region, and it will become mostly clear.  Lows will be in the  30s  north with some frost, so protect plants and pets.  South of the lake we will be in the 40s.   Sunday will be a beautiful day with plenty of sunshine, but it

Mostly Sunny and Milder Today, Another Cold Front Arrives Wednesday

It is a chilly morning, but do you remember back in 2014 when we had the ice storm in New Orleans?  We picked up 0.25"+ of ice across the area.  This shut down most of the roads in and out of the city thanks to all the bridges we have! It was such a mess!   Fortunately, it is not that cold this morning!  An area of high pressure will move east of Louisiana and this will bring back the onshore flow and milder temperatures.  It will be a pretty day with mostly sunny skies.  Highs will be around 70.  Tonight will not be as chilly as temperatures actually rise overnight as more southerly winds return under mostly clear skies.  Lows will be in the upper 50s north and lower 60s south. A cold front will move across the Gulf South on Wednesday.  We will have plenty of clouds during the day with spotty showers developing in the afternoon ahead of the front.  Then the front will move through during the evening hours with a line of showers.  It will be very unseasonably warm ahead

The tornado that hit Hattiesburg was rated an EF-3 with significant damage reported there.  4 people lost their lives as well, but when you look at the damage, there could have been many more.   We will still have some wrap around clouds from the upper-level low over us through the morning, but the sunshine will return this afternoon.  It will remain breezy for much of today with winds out of the NW around 15-20 mph.  Use caution when driving across the Causeway and other bridges.  Temperatures will be cooler today with highs in the mid 60s.  High pressure will build over us tonight.  It will be clear and colder with lows in the 40s on both sides of the lake.   We will have plenty of sunshine on Tuesday as the high moves east of Louisiana.  It will be mild with highs around 70.   A co
