Record Highs Today, But Severe Storms Are Possible On Thursday

We will have another warm day with some record highs possible!  High pressure located southeast of us over the Eastern Gulf will keep us partly cloudy, warm and humid today.  Highs will be in the mid  80s .  The record high for today is 83° set back in 2012, and we could easily tie or break that.  Tonight will be mostly quiet with mostly cloudy skies as a weakening broken line of storms moves toward Louisiana.  Some of these storms could be strong toward the Baton Rouge area around daybreak.  Lows will be around 70.   The squall line of storms will move through during the morning and into the afternoon on Thursday.  Right now, the line will be in the Hammond Area between 9-10 AM, Covington Area between 10-11 AM, New Orleans between 11 AM-12 PM, and it clears the coast around 3 PM.  This line of storms will likely be severe with damaging winds and large hail along with a few tornadoes.   SPC  has put all of SE Louisiana and Southern Mississippi in a Slight Risk.  The latest for

Record Highs Possible Today and Wednesday Across The New Orleans Area

An area of high pressure off the East Coast will help to keep our weather pretty quiet today.  We will be partly cloudy and unseasonably warm with just a slight chance for a shower - mainly on the Northshore.  Expect near record highs in the mid  80s .  The record is 84° set back in 1972, a nd we could tie that today!  Tonight will be partly to mostly cloudy and mild with patchy fog.  Lows will be in the upper 60s. More pleasant and warm weather is expected on Wednesday with partly cloudy skies.  Expect more record highs in the mid  80s .  Clouds will be on the increase on Wednesday Night as a cold front moves toward the region.  There will also be a few showers and storms possible.  Lows will be around 70.   The cold front will move into the area on Thursday with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. It is likely that a squall line of storms will develop on Wednesday across Texas and move into Louisiana on Thursday.  These storms are expected to be strong to severe

Strong To Severe Storms Possible On Saturday

Today will be a transition day between the pleasant weather we've had and some stormy weather that will arrive on Saturday.  An upper-level and surface low/trough will be moving across the Southern U.S. today and tomorrow.  We will stay ahead of it today.  That means you can expect a day with mostly cloudy skies along with a few isolated showers.  It will still be warm with highs in the lower  80s .  A squall line of thunderstorms will form ahead of a cold front over Texas today.  These storms will move east into Louisiana tonight.  The latest forecast models show the line weakening as it get to LA overnight.  We will be well ahead of the line here in New Orleans, so expect mostly cloudy skies with a few showers or storms tonight.  Lows will be in the upper  60s .   The squall line looks to break up by the time it gets to New Orleans on Saturday Morning.  However, we will have an unstable environment over us, so I am expecting scattered showers and storms to develop throug

Near Record Highs Again Today In New Orleans

Today will be another unseasonably warm day as a weak stationary front sits over us.  The front will dissipate and we will have partly cloudy skies.  Expect near record highs in the lower  80s .  The record is 84° set back in 1995.  Clouds will be on the increase tonight, so expect mostly cloudy skies with some patchy fog.  Lows will be in the mid  60s .   A weak disturbance will be just west of us on Friday. This will keep us mostly cloudy and we will have a few showers.  Highs will be around 80.  During the day on Friday, a squall line of storms will move across Texas and it arrives in Louisiana on Friday Night.  Some of these storms will be strong to severe over Western Louisiana.  It looks like this line of storms will arrive in the New Orleans area after sunrise on Saturday.  Therefore, most of Friday Night will be mostly cloudy with lows in the  60s .   The disturbance will move over the area and send the squall line through the region on Saturday Morning.  Right now, it

Near Record Highs Possible In New Orleans Today

We will have partly cloudy skies again this afternoon as the area of high pressure remains over the Northern Gulf of Mexico.  A weak backdoor cold front will move through today.  It will not impact our weather as it moves through.  We will just see a shift in the winds from the SW to NW, and this will make it a little less humid.  It will stay unseasonably warm with highs in the lower  80s . The record high for today in New Orleans is 83°, and we will make a run at tying it today!   Tonight will have some clouds with patchy dense fog again.  Lows will be in the  60s .   The weak backdoor cold front will move into the Gulf and dissipate on Thursday.  We will be partly cloudy with highs in the lower  80s .   Friday still looks to be the transitions day between the nice weather and some stormy weather on Saturday.  We will be partly to mostly cloudy with a slight chance for a shower or storm.  Highs will be in the lower  80s .   Our weather will go downhill on Friday Night as
